Case Study 1: The 400 series industrial pump

Williamson Manufacturing Company were approached in 2006 by a leading UK engineering company with a difficult pumping problem. The company were manufacturing a machine that collected and processed the waste water from garage forecourts. This application was made challenging because the raw fluid had to be pumped, it could not be filtered to make it easy to pump. A peristaltic pump was the obvious solution because of its ability to pump a wide range of fluids even with high particulate and chemical content. The company had been importing a costly peristaltic pump from the USA , but finding that pumps would barely last two weeks.

Williamson developed a version of its 400 series industrial pump to suit the application and involved increasing the maximum flow rate of the pump from 7 litres per minute to over 10 litres per minute. This was achieved by sourcing a fast running 24VDC motor gearbox, designing and making a bespoke mounting plate and by manufacturing a special stainless steel inlet/outlet port.

The resulting pump was less expensive than the unit that the company has been buying and lasted over 1000 hours on the company's own tests. The pump remains in production today and is available to all users requiring a cost effective peristaltic pump capable of 10 litres per minute and a long life.
